So you have practiced the precedenting techniques and now you are actually traveling and are still finding that you suffer from motion sickness. What can be done?

To ease discomfort quickly, close your eyes and breath deeply … then follow one of these strategies: Regain Control. Imagine yourself with your favorite toy. Perhaps you have not actually played with it for a while, but you can recall a time when you spent hours learning how to manipulate and control it. Maybe it was a yo-yo, or a remote control car, or a basketball. If you did not have any toys when you were little, how about choosing one of your adult toys: your car or motorcycle, or even a paintbrush and canvas? Whatever it is, see and feel yourself handling it now. Become consciously aware of the physical motion that is making you feel bad and now, transfer that motion to your toy. If the boat is rolling from side to side, imagine that movement in your toy. Realize that you are the one directing the movement now; you are in control of your toy.

If you are driving a motorcycle, project your vision down the road so that each turn, every small rise and dip is anticipated and enjoyed. Notice that the action is planned and controlled by you. You can see yourself painting a fantastic picture with your brush, perhaps dipping it into the paint rhythmically or sometimes jolting it quickly to the canvas, all in sync with the movements inspired by your voyage. As you take control of the motion, it evolves into a tolerable and sometimes even enjoyable sensation. Reapply this method as needed. Soon you will find it will not even be necessary to close your eyes to seek relief. Object Imagery. An effective hypnosis tool for relieving symptoms is to imagine the discomfort, be it physical or emotional, as an object and then transform it. This amazing technique can be used for all ages.

Begin by focusing on the problem and assigning it a particular shape. This can be any shape you wish, it is entirely your choice. Add to this shape a color, a color that represents what that discomfort feels like. Imagine then the texture and consistency of the discomfort. Finally, design the size of this object; as big as a plane or boat … or maybe it is the size of a breadbox. You choose. As you visualize this image in your mind's eye, begin to change the elements of the object. Start with the shape: what shape would you like it to become? See it change into the newly desired shape. Imagine now changing the color to a color you wish, and continue by varying the object's texture and consistency. See it evolve before your eyes, transforming under your command. Next, change the size of the object, watching it as it now appears completely different. Finally, create a way to let that object go. You may want to attach a helium balloon to it, or place it on the wing of a bird.

It does not matter how, but notice the feeling as you watch that transformed object slowly float away, drifting up into the clouds of your consciousness. And notice, too, that you can keep it in sight if you want and in fact, can even redeem it if you need to. Secondary gain from motion sickness. One of the keys to reducing or eliminating an illness or malady requires discovering its source or casual factor. Unfortunately, understanding and treating the issue is not always enough to make it go away. This is due primarily to a phenomena described as “secondary gain”. Secondary gain is a method by which a sufferer either consciously or subconsciously receives benefit from being ill. For example, a person with a back injury, although he is actually experiencing the misery of the injury, may benefit hugely from secondary gains. This could be in the form of being able to stay home from work, receiving sympathy, attention and care giving from friends and family, being able to avoid normal chores at home, financial benefits, etc.

Often the benefits of secondary gain overshadow the benefits of recovery and play a large role in restricting recovery and even influencing reoccurring episodes of the illness or injury. Keeping secondary gain in mind is critical when addressing an issue such as motion sickness. It is important to consider any possible reasons why a sufferer may be, albeit unaware of doing so, encouraging the problem. Hidden secondary gain may be: a deep desire to avoid taking a trip, an undiscovered phobia of speed, water or heights, a craving for attention and care giving, avoidance of having to participate in activities, a fear or dislike of lack of control, etc.

In addition to debilitating the physical source of motion sickness, it is absolutely recommended to understand and deal with any suspected secondary gain. This may be done through self-hypnosis methods or with the help of a qualified professional, depending on the depth and severity of the issue. Hypnosis is an affordable, natural and effective solution towards the treatment of motion sickness. The days of crazy roller coast rides may be long past, but with a little pre-planning and practice, nearly anyone who suffers from this restrictive malady can find relief and be able to enjoy travel and vacations.

Can Hypnosis Be Dangerous?

Thanks to movies and stage hypnosis, many people often wonder if hypnosis can be dangerous? As a general rule, the answer is “no” … hypnosis is not dangerous.

Millions of people practice self hypnosis each year and millions more visit hypnotherapists for treatment for a variety of conditions. The “hypnotic state” occurs in each of us every day whenever we realize it or not. There is a brief period before you go to sleep and a brief period right before you wake up, in which you experience hypnosis. And most of us have periods during the day when we're so engrossed in something, that we're totally oblivious to our surroundings.

You will often hear people say that hypnosis / hypnotherapy should only be performed by licensed physicians because, “lay hypnotists” are not trained properly. I do not agree with this statement. I've operated my own clinic in the past and saw many clients during that time. I did not have the training of a doctor, but I was perfectly capable of helping someone quit smoking or lose weight. There were certain lines of treatment and therapy that I did not feel comfortable performing and I would turn down clients that needed that type of help.

If you're considering getting hypnotized for pain control, it's always recommended that you consult with your doctor. Your body experiences pain for a reason. It's telling you that something is wrong. Masking the pain with hypnosis, (while very effective), can also cause you to overlook a more serious problem. Always consult with your physician before using hypnosis for pain.

The most dangerous part of hypnosis, in my opinion, is the hypnotherapist that may take your money in return for a worthless hypnosis session. Yes, there are people in this business who are either not trained well enough, or who are just plain unscrupulous! If you're planning to visit a hypnotherapist, I always recommend getting references from them. If they can not provide a few references, then find someone else.

To sum things up, hypnosis is not dangerous. It is not mind control and the person being hypnotized can end the session at any point if they do not feel comfortable. You can not get “stuck” in hypnosis and no one can turn into some kind of “mindless zombie”. Enjoy this wonderful, relaxing and effective tool for self & health improvement.

How to Power Up Your Energy System

It is now an accepted fact that the mind and the body work together in balance in a holistic system. This is demonstrated by the Oriental approach to medicine which instead of isolating the cause of an illness encompasses all aspects of the patients lifestyle, general metabolism and energy system.

There's no doubt that that today's stressful lifestyle causes a drain on our energy levels and it is common to suffer from lethargy and fatigue as the rigors of the day take their toll on us.

Breathing exercises – Sitting in a relaxed position and relaxing, place your hands on the 'hara' area around your belly button in the lower belly. Keep doing this for as long as you feel it bringing in energy in the form of a warm sensation in the lower belly.

Moving down to the forehead, repeat the exercise and continue slowly down the body through the arms and hands, then down the throat, chest and stomach through the legs and down to the feet. Once all the body is covered this way you should feel a tingling sensation over your whole body which you should enjoy and you will soon feel energized enough to resume your activities.

Physical exercise – Although the thought of physical exercise after a day's work may seem to be more energy-sapping, it does get your blood circulating and helps remove the toxins in your blood. as long as it is not overdone and it is an activity you enjoy.Swimming is an excellent all round exerciser, and my own favorite is squash, which even in my late 50's got me invigorated and feeling energised after I've played, win or lose. The only problem again is fitting the time in and to organize other activities to fit it all in.

Energised drinks / snacks – These really are short-term fixes. There are various energy bars and high glucose drinks which can help but must be used with caution as they are not a natural way to energize the system and can have negative side-effects if overused.

Power naps – This is a popular method of re-energizing during the day for those who can fit them in. If you can fall sleep for a short period of time during daylight hours it can be beneficial, but if you are having a stressful day the chances are you will not be able to relax enough to benefit.

Brainwave entrainment – By using monaural or binaural beats or isochronic tones played via headphones, in conjunction with a short relaxation period where the sounds are concentrated on, the effect is quite extraordinary and the benefit from a 10 minute session is equivalent to a power nap of 30minutes or more. Because the effect is automatic and relaxing this is like a spa break where the effect just lifts the listener and rejuvenates their energy level without effort.Nowadays they can be played in any time you are able to sit and listen to them, eg. on the train, restroom, etc.,

All these methods have some benefit and it is an important discipline to fit into your day. Functioning on low energy levels is equivalent to running a car on low grade fuel, although it may work in the short term it is building up damage which will have to be addressed in the future.

Can Hypnosis Help Weight Loss?

Hypnosis can help people with many aspects of their life, weight loss certainly being one of those. Each year, 10's of thousands of people visit hypnotists or purchase “hypnosis for weight loss” cd's & MP3's. The majority of those people will lose weight and of course there will be some who will not lose any at all.

First let me say that hypnosis statistics can vary from study to study. Hypnosis is not an exact science by any means. There are a lot of people & companies out there that do not want hypnosis to be viewed as a valid way to lose weight. I'm guessing you're smart enough to figure out which companies those are. If there's any question, just turn on the radio or television and listen to the ads. You'll soon see what I mean. Weight loss is big business!

Most of the studies I've read contained two groups. One that did not use hypnosis, alongside a group that did. I have not read a study yet that says there was no difference in the results of the groups. You will “always” find that the hypnosis group gains in losing weight. The data is simply overwhelming. Nothing, not even hypnosis, is going to “force” you to lose weight … it's all up to you. Same with smoking or anything else. Use hypnosis as a “tool” to assist you and you will not go wrong.
