Words or phrases with negative connotation, such as “I will not …” or “I do not want to …” need to be avoided as they can be detrimental to the objectives of the process.

Negative terms tend to cause your brain to process first the unwanted activity before it can actually figure out your “not-to-do-it” command. As a result, you are only reinforcing what's undesirable. You need to do otherwise, to underscore positivity in your choice of words. Instead of saying “I will not overeat”, you may just say “I will lose weight … I will be healthy …” Maintain simplicity and clarity in your phrases so that it will be easy for your mind to follow. Also, it is important that the voice of your script should be in the present or progressive tense. Refrain from referring to past circumstances.

Because self-hypnosis is about refurbishing your subconscious with direct commands, it is vital to do persistent repetitions of your suggestions to boost its effectiveness. With “repetitions” however, you need to be careful not to repeat the same words or phrases over and over again. Be consistent, but do not be monotonous. In other words, be creative in your script. So that when applying the self-hypnosis to shed off some weight, you can use statements like, “I am eating healthy”, “I am losing weight every day”, “I am eating less during dinner”, etc.

Another important element in using self-hypnosis scripts is to have a comprehensive, progressive or forward approach that will conclude to your desired goal. If losing weight is your target, you may use a phrase similar to this one, “I am losing weight daily to achieve my desired weight of 130 pounds.” You will notice that with these words you are integrating a time factor while at the same time giving yourself a specific and very definite goal as a target. It is much better than plainly saying “I will lose weight”.

Personalizing your scripts is also a powerful tool in self-hypnosis. It increases the effectiveness of your script. This means that instead of using “You are”, you would rather use “I am”. This allows your subconscious mind to reiterate, within its own confines, your commands or suggestions in the first person – then making it more effective.

With self-hypnosis, you are retooling or reformatting your mind through direct communication with your inner self. This course of action makes it possible, and easier, for you to transform negative behaviors into something positive. Your deep-seated habits and disadvantageous beliefs can really be altered with some positive reinforcements to the subconscious mind. A method of weight loss that's often looked over is the hypnosis CD, and it made me start to wonder why, and what it can do to solve the real problem that most of us have.

We all know that the majority of people who overeate and therefore tend to have anything from a few extra pounds to carry around to being dangerously obese. There is actually a psychological reason for people overeating most of the time. So how do most of us try to solve this? That's right; we jump on to a faddy diet to cure symptoms and do little about the cause.
